Jerusalem Affirmation of the Nicene Faith
The Jerusalem Affirmation fully upholds every word of the Nicene Creed adopted 1700 years ago as a unifying statement of Christian faith built around the divinity of Jesus, while also addressing its key omissions concerning the humanity of Jesus as a Jew, which were essential to establishing his credentials as the promised Messiah.

This Affirmation also aims to restore our appreciation for the uniquely central role of Israel, the Patriarchs and the Hebrew Scriptures in birthing and nourishing the Christian faith from its inception. Every new phrase added in this Affirmation is firmly grounded in New Testament truths.

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.
He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and JacobSee note i, the Lord God of IsraelSee note ii.
WeSee note i believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the promised MessiahSee note iii, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; through Him all things were made.
He is the One of whom Moses, the Prophets and all the Hebrew Scriptures bear witnessSee note iv.
For us and for our salvation, to the Jew first and also to the GentileSee note v, He came down from heaven; by the Holy Spirit He was incarnate of the Virgin Mary and was made truly man.
He is the Son of Abraham and of David according to the fleshSee note vi, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of His people IsraelSee note vii.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father, as the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root and Offspring of DavidSee note viii.
From there He shall come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom shall have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church, in which Jew and Gentile are reconciled as one new man in ChristSee note ix, and in which the nations, having been grafted into the cultivated olive tree by faith, share in the covenants and promises given through IsraelSee note x.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
